Which new schools just opened?
In 2025, Sherman ISD opened three brand-new elementary schools. Each one has its own mascot:
- Crutchfield Elementary Cougars. It is big enough for more than 700 students!
- Fairview Elementary Falcons
- Parker Elementary Wranglers
Voters said yes to a $540 million bond in 2023 to build them. A bond is a way for a town to borrow money for big projects, like new schools, and pay it back over time.
Why is Sherman ISD growing?
New jobs are bringing new families to Sherman. The district has about 7,500 students now. It expects more than 9,200 students by 2030 and nearly 12,000 by 2035. That is why new schools are being built.
Can high school students earn college credit?
Yes! In the Bearcat Collegiate Program, students can earn an associate degree (a two-year college degree) before they even finish high school. The district also has career classes where students can earn job certificates.
What colleges are in and near Sherman?
Austin College is a private college in Sherman. It started in 1849 and moved to Sherman in 1876. It is the oldest college in Texas that still has its first name and charter. Sam Houston, a famous Texas hero, served on its board. Its teams are the Kangaroos, and its Adams Observatory has the largest telescope in the region.
Grayson College is a community college in nearby Denison. It offers two-year degrees and job training.
Long ago, Sherman had so many colleges that people called it the “Athens of Texas.” One of them, Kidd-Key College, had 120 pianos in its music school!
